History:
Having been introduced to painting techniques as a child in it's more commercial uses by my father's work, using Gouache, Inks, Latex. Loving the colors and textures of the mediums and the endless possibilities only limited by human imagination. Inspired by the art masters and styles of the past as well as modern arts was always her fathers goal. Art books, museum, galleries, magazines, participating in community artistic activities and taking workshops. "We were broke but we had riches." Painting sets and decorations were available activities to her. Commercial arts influenced with multiple forms of marketing, eye and attention grabbing 2D or 3D uses. Giving her an interest in the effects of visual information on us all. An interpretive dance that can then occur between the artist and the viewer. Maticulously choosing facial, body or other visual languages in ways to effect the viewer. A smile, a loose hand, a keen look, a flash of colour, a dark surrounding, patterns, all are interpreted by the viewer in subtle ways. "To affect myself and the viewer. Like so many marketing and publicity consumer objectives do, my product is one aimed at us all. Effecting our affect." Paintings on canvases seemed a "serious" art forms to her for very long, the permanence, symbol of having something real to say, a concept, a vision. So though drawing and sketching since the age of 10 when getting my first instruction from her father on hot summer days when they had no money and no one knew how to driv in her family, it was actually years later felt the guts to paint on a canvas. At 17 years old a dream of wheer sister floated naked, eyes closed in an unknown space, on one side of her, the area was filled with a red light, and on the other blue. The graphic quality of the image struck her and it was to be her first piece on canvas. Many of the same qualities and inspirations of that initial moment would influence the styles and subject matters she gravitates towards. Since studying at College and University, practising on and off over the years, only recently had she felt that her visions and ideas needed to be put on the framed cotton or linen. Here are some of the subject matters and graphic interest she has been making. Acrylic: Polymers and pigments on canvas have been attractive for many reasons. A medium that can offer texture, durability, affordability and really fun colours mixing process. Automatic techniques, patterns, nudes, dreams, abstract, surreal, saturated. |
